Vintage Bethlehem Pearl
キリストの生誕地と言われているパレスチナのベツレヘムで、 15世紀にフランシスコ会の修道士によって持ち込まれたと言われている伝統工芸品、 「ベツレヘムパール」の耳飾り
何世紀にも渡り、父から息子へ受け継がれてきた技術も、 今では職人が減って、細工が精巧なものは入手困難になりつつある
わくわくする素材は、私が見つけるのではなく、 偶然が重なって出会うべくして出会う感覚
1930〜50年代のものといわれた このヴィンテージのベツレヘムパールたちも、まさに奇跡のような偶然が重なって、
ロンドンからはるばる日本の私の元へやってきた
そして、新たなカタチに生まれ変わったモノは、次の持ち主へとまた出会うべくして出会う まるでお互いを引き寄せるように

The Mother-of-Pearl work is a traditional handicraft in Bethlehem, and is said to have been brought to the city by Franciscan friars from Italy in the 15th century. In the Cristian Community of Bethlehem this unusual handcraft art has been passed from father to son for some century. The tools used are very primitive, a coping saw, a small chisel and file. Nowadays, the number of craftsman has been decreasing. Through a series of miracles, I found the bethlehem pearls and they came here all the way from London.
